this moment.

{this moment} - A Friday ritual. A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.

Happy Friday!
It's beach and fishin' for us today.

How 'bout you?

Logging Time.

We had logs delivered when there was still lots of snow on the ground.

Then Jeff and his brother moved them all into a huge pile out back.
I couldn't see the chicken coop or the back gate for months!

Huge pile.

The kids played on it.
The chickens played on it.

And sometimes, Jeff would split logs by hand.

Then he rented a splitter.
Got the rest done in an afternoon.
Then we had a giant pile of split logs blocking my view.

Logs that had to be stacked.

 So we stacked.

 And we staaaaaacked.

We have three separate, neatly stacked log locations now.
The one above has 4 more rows than shown.
Thats a lot of logs.
(And did I say, stacking?)

It was a lot of work but its the kind of work I am craving these days.
Work like growing food and raising animals.
Many of us are being pulled in that direction, aren't we?

I guess it was actually easy, really.
The darn things were cut and delivered to us.
Now we will be warm for the rest of the year.

Luxury for just a few splinters.

Happy Wednesday!

This Weekend Moment. (Or Is It?)

{this moment} - A Friday ritual. A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.

-Amanda Soule (SouleMama)

I have so many things to share about our Summer but I forget to post because I keep thinking it's the weekend. I usually don't post much on weekends except photos sometimes. Then I get mad at myself for not posting during all these perfectly good weekdays. Then I realize why I keep thinking it's a weekend day. Because we are sleeping in, hangin' at home and not rushing around doing stuff. So basically, living everyday like it is the weekend.

That is not a bad problem to have.

Happy Friday and happy weekend to you!

Hope it lasts all week.

A Tale Of Six Rabbits.

So, Hazel lives with us.

We adopted her some months back. She is the prettiest and softest bunny I have ever met. She doesn't like to be held though. That is fine and she has a nice big hutch and seems super happy. But I have three kids that really want to hold her.... all the time.

We found something today.
Two somethings, actually.

Teeny wild rabbit babies!

They must have been in a nest in the big brush pile out back.
We (Jeff) were chopping and burning the brush today,
and a baby fell out!

Then Roo-the-dog found a second baby nearby that Sully saved.
(Just like Kodi and the baby jays.)

The kids got to hold them. I couldn't say no. I couldn't resist myself. So soft and sweet.

Those little ears!

We researched the possibility of raising them.

But with that research, we also became hopeful that the mama will still find them tonight when it gets dark if we leave them near their old nest. The babies have a faint stripe of white on their forehead and that means that the mama isn't done caring for them yet.

There have been lots of tears and worry and falling in love out here today. We know that their best chance of survival is with their mom. Its hard, but its nature. We like to trust nature.

We don't know what we will do if it looks as though the nest and sticks we placed around it weren't distubed. That would mean the mother didn't come in the night. We will have to figure out a Plan B.

So...

I just did what every other normal person would do when their animal loving kids are sad about giving up little wild bunnies, I adopted three Flemish Giants instead.

Seemed totally rational at the time.

A Party And Farewell.

As we all know,  Minna just had her birthday.
I blinked and she turned four.

Just like that.

A few days ago, we celebrated early with some special friends.

She got sweet pals to cuddle and of course some crocheted goodies.
(Lots of crochet goes on when us moms get together. :)

We made wands and fooled around.
It was a fun easy-going party.

We had to celebrate early because
these friends of ours are moving all the way to Maine.

(Maine!)

It is hard living in a military community
because it is inevitable that families will come and go.

I am so happy we all ended up on the island at the same time.

These sweet girls had to say goodbye today.

So very hard.

It sure has been fun watching them together.
They met when they were two!
How much they have grown up.

Grown up together.

We will always be in touch.
Us moms will still exchange crochet patterns and inspiration.
There will still be giggling and fun and a shared love of chickens.

I don't think a little distance could stop these two anyhow.
(Or us crazy crochet ladies.)

Four.

This girl.

She is...

a little country.

A lot rock-n-roll.

(Some things don't change much.)

All smart.
And cute.
And awesome.

And, she is FOUR!

Happy-Happy Birthday to my best girl.

4 is gonna be fun.
