This Moment- 2 for 1.

{this moment} - A Friday ritual. A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.

Fall Aglow.

It's neat how each season has its own color scheme.
I know I keep saying Fall is over but I still see the colors in my photos.

Just like last year
I have a bunch of random Fall glowy shots popping up.

Pups are growing.
And running.
They run a lot.

All of these leaves are crinkled and falling due to our freezing nights.
They get really red before their demise.

Minna is always pretty glowy.

The young girls have some lovely Autumn color themselves.
We may have little green eggs soon!
Not sure where they will lay though.
Right now they sleep in a tree
and don't spend much time near the nesting boxes.
Hmmm?

Anyway, so excited about Halloween prep!
Costumes are in the works!

Here is the oh-so-serious girl showing everyone our latest DIY project.

Check back for the run down on our cool new easel.
We need the easel now that indoor projects are going to be the thing.

What do you got?
What's the new thing at your place?

A Four Day Weekend. (We like those.)

We had a nice long weekend.
Love extra weekend days, don't you?

I figured.

I am looking at snowflakes
floating around outside my window as I type this.

There are about a dozen leaves left on our trees.
Most of them are at the tip top of their tree, holding on.

I wore a hat today
and the boys didn't fight bringing their big coats to school.
Tomorrow in their backpacks ... gloves.

Happy Monday!

The Fog.

We have been somewhat dry this week.
No rain really.
Mainly because the sky has been too low
to rain on us the past couple of days.

We have been consumed by fog.
Big fog.

We have drivin into it.
Drivin out of it.
And been so stuck in it that I feel blind.

I think it is dreamy.
Spooky too.
But mostly dreamy.
That movie "The Others" has come to mind lately.
Now that's creepy fog.

I stopped on the way to school
to take pictures of the birds coming in and out of focus.
They were flying, playing in the low clouds.

Minna waited in the car.
I stood on the side of the road.
My right arm was in thick mist and the other in the clear.
No joke.

I got in the car and the fog chased us to school.

Then we would have a break.
The flats, un-foggy.
We'd grab dogs and kids and go walking.

15 minutes away, town was covered.
But we could see it creeping back.
The birds flying from it.
It almost swallowed Sully-boy whole.

And all around us again, the fog.

I like it.

(PS-Today was our two year Kodiak-aversary. Neat, eh?)

this weekend

A full, full weekend out here! We have pups learning to tolerate a collar, (and growing by the minute!). Hens coming out of their broody trances. A packed dinner table of friends on Friday night. The guest house in use for a day. The banya got fired up. Movie nights and tide pools and bikes and breaks in the rain, ah! I don't want it to end...

Good night, weekend.

Fall Is Fast.

Believe it or not, our Autumn came and went since I was here last. Of course, on the calendar, that isn't really true. On our walks and in our yard and on our drives, we can see that nature doesn't care much for dates. When you live here, you can't either.

Fireweed has morphed and disappeared.

The grasses have started to bend and lose their green.

Our leaves are everywhere.
The amount of leaves that fall out here could cover the island.

I swear.

The fish are going.
Some going in the freezer and some never to be caught.

The chickens a little soggier than usual.
A few less eggs than usual.
Their coop light is on.
A sure sign of the darker season ahead.

I really mean it,  leaves everywhere.

Paths are opening up and being discovered.

And relished.

This scene would have been green only two, maybe three weeks ago.
It's fast.

And beautiful.
And miraculous.

The colder weather baking bug has bitten.
As well as the knitting bug.
More on that later.

And snow.
We had a day of snow.

Told you it's fast.

How is your Fall? Just beginning? Seem far off? Passing you by?
