This Moment.

{this moment} - A Friday ritual. A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.

-Amanda Soule (SouleMama)

Hopefully we will have some more busy days followed by more cozy, late-night movie nights. :)

Have a great weekend!

Where There Is A Will, And Power Tools...

...there is certainly a way, to skimboard in Alaska.

You may be surprised that the island has some pretty popular surfing spots and a lot of surfers brave the cold to get those waves. My little skimmers were willing to brave the chill to catch some sand-surfing action of their own.

First they needed a second skimboard. Two boys, one board, doesn't add up anymore. No problem! The boys just made one on their own! They cut and sanded a piece of wood into a skimboard shape. (I said egg shape but was immediately corrected.) I love that it's such a crazy bright green!

And it works! And we found a piece of beach near by that worked too. Those boys proved their doubting parents wrong, big time!

Love it when that happens.

Oh Yeah...

Welcome, welcome...

Painting.

All of us did some foggy day painting yesterday.

I did some face painting indoors.

Everybody else did painting prep and cleaning and painting on all fours out back in the supposed to be guest house, that is now a full blown workshop. Bummed about not having a nice guest space, but so happy that there is now a designated work area for welding, woodworking, model car-plane-boat building. The messy fly-tying desk is out there too now. Best of all there is a huge work bench that could comfortably sit 15. More than enough workspace for us 4-5, I think. Or will it be?

We will see.

Well, we will see when the wet paint signs come down...

...and pesky moms are allowed in for photographs.

Midnight Sun Messin' With My Mind!

I love it though. Yesterday (and today) we got a lovely taste of some summery Kodiak days. We took advantage of it too. Not much got done around the house. I got some great advice to forget the laundry, dishes, carpets, etc when the sun is out. No problem here!

Instead I documented another fairy sighting.

We had soup and salad on the deck at 9:00pm.

We had a fire, hot chocolate and coffee (yes, coffee) around 10:00pm.

And I did some fireside embroidery and gazed into a still very lit sky after 11:00pm. We got the kids to bed somewhere in between everything. Who knows when. I can't keep track now. All I know is I put myself to bed after 1:00am and it was still not totally dark. Unbelievable.

More of the same today minus the fire, add a great hike and the beach and a super fun portrait session with a sweet family and we made the most of our long sunny day.

Still going strong in fact. I am squinting into the sun through my window. I shouldn't be surprised, it's only 9:30pm.

Have a great night!

sunday, anniversary day

We have 12 years together! Not too shabby!

Thanks to Jeff for taking pictures with me on our anniversary.
And for taking it so seriously too.

We got some nice romantic shots, just the two of us.

Looking our best, of course.

Just like I wanted. Just perfect.
